In collaboration with urban architect Aliaksandra Rameika, I undertook an experimental mapping project that integrated urban planning principles with performative and scenographic methodologies.
Our approach involved navigating predetermined routes while blindfolded, allowing us to access and analyze often-overlooked sensory data.
This unconventional method prompted a reevaluation of our daily perceptions and highlighted the complex interplay between tangible and intangible elements that shape urban experiences.
The culmination of our research was the development of an "invisible" sensory map — a conceptual framework derived from our non-visual explorations. This experimental tool offered a fresh perspective on urban landscapes, particularly park areas, enabling users to interact with familiar spaces in novel and unexpected ways.
Navigating this route using our sensory map requires a certain level of confidence in one's surroundings and fellow citizens. These elements contribute additional dimensions to our research, enhancing our understanding of environmental and societal safety perceptions.
Our project encouraged introspective reflection, viewing participants as integral to the urban fabric. This deepened connections between individuals and their surroundings, challenging them to reconsider their relationship with the city.
